Athens, PA – Man Killed in Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision on Rte 8
Athens, PA (October 7, 2022) – Around 7:30 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, October 6, a man was killed in a fatal two-vehicle collision in Athens Township.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened at 19000 Route 8. Police confirmed that a southbound SUV was traveling in the area when it suddenly crossed into the other lane of traffic and slammed into a passenger vehicle. The impact pushed the passenger vehicle into a field along the side of the road, causing extensive damages.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 40-year-old Erie woman, was seriously injured in the accident. The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as a 54-year-old man from Waterford, sustained critical injuries. Both parties were airlifted to local hospitals for treatment but the man tragically passed away at the hospital.
Due to the severity of the accident, both lanes of the road were blocked for about six hours following the collision.
