Ashland, PA (March 3, 2023) – Around 7 a.m. on the morning of Friday, March 3, a man was killed in a fatal head-on collision on a roadway in Ashland.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened at 620 Fountain Street. Police confirmed that a Chevrolet Colorado and a Ford sedan were traveling in the area when they became involved in a serious head-on collision with each other due to reasons that are not entirely known. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and debris was left scattered all over the road in the area.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were dispatched to the scene. Both drivers involved in the accident, identified as 46-year-old Wade Bucher, and 65-year-old Frank Gronski, were trapped inside their vehicles after the accident. Bucher was extricated and flown to Ashland Hospital by medical helicopter for treatment of serious injuries. Gronski, who was driving the Ford, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
The roadway was completely blocked in the area of the accident for several hours as police worked to clear the scene. This led to extensive delays until the scene was cleared.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues. Pennsylvania State Police will continue to update with more information as it becomes available.
We would like to offer our warmest and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken in this accident.
